El Segundo Dog Park

JJ had a blast at the dog park today!  He was absolutely filthy when we left. Oh the fun life of a dog.... He also made friends with Scooby, a super sweet chocolate lab (who didn't mind sharing his toy).  Thanks Scooby!

Dog Food Making Class

Found a flyer for a "dog food making class" and had to pass along the info!  It's at the South Bay School of Cooking, click here for the info.  Learn why preparing food for your dog is healthier than store bought kibble.  Sign up today!  Yummy, Woof Woof!

Palm Springs Christmas Trip

These pictures had to be posted!  New friends Tyson, Rogan & Lucy (the family's dogs) have loved walking together this week.  I must admit the 3 of them walked together easier as a "group" than individually.

A few pictures....

These were taken in November, I'm finally getting the chance to post them!

Dog Biscuit Recipe

I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas treats!  Here is the recipe should you want to make them at home.

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup powered milk
1 tsp. garlic power (optional, i didn't use it)
1 tb. wheat germ
1 tsp. beef bouillon (granules)
6 tb. bacon grease or meat drippings
1 egg
1/2 cup ice water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Combine all dry ingredients.  Cut in drippings and mix in egg. Add enough ice water for mixture to form a ball.  Flour surface and pat out to 1/2'' thick. Cut out with cookie cutter. Bake 25-30 minutes.  Biscuits will slightly harden when cool.

Walking in the Rain.....

I must admit, Penny & I did our fair share of walking in the rain today.... Luckily, for Dot & Rocky the rain stopped for their afternoon stroll.  Although, it did take some coaxing to get Dot going (she really loves to snooze on the couch!) Aren't they adorable!?!?!!!!

Dog of the Month: Cannoli

How do you like to unwind?
"After a long day, if you see me make two quick turns followed by a shoulder tuck and a thud from laying down - it's my happy time and it's much needed. Please do not disturb, especially if my tongue is sticking out slightly because that means I'm "in the zone"."

What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?
"My first ice cube.  It literally blew my mind.  I love the things now, but the first time I had one I didn't know if it was a toy or a treat or what I supposed to do with it! I tried just looking at it for a minute but it started to pee on my bed! So I made the decision to eat it and I've never looked back.  Best decision of my life."

Who do you admire most and why?
"My mom.  She always gets up early to take care of me. Even when I just look at her from my bed and don't want to get up, she still gets things ready for me. She's the best. "

Describe your ultimate day.
"A Saturday morning of running around with the fellas at the dog park, followed by a nap for 3 hours, a big lunch consisting of kibble, chopped carrots and a nice piece of aged cheddar cheese and of course a slightly chilled bowl of fresh water to wash it all down.  Then an afternoon and evening of watching TV with the folks, a small dinner and of course another walk to make sure nobody has peed over any of my spots in the neighborhood.... It's bliss."

What's your motto for life?
"Slow and steady wins the race."

Describe your personal fashion sense.
"Minimalist.  I prefer to only wear a collar when going out and to be honest when I'm home, I prefer to wear nothing at all (please no paparazzi)."

What's your beauty secret?
"Genetics.... but my consistent and regimented daily routine of sleeping at least 6 hours during the day plays a factor.  As well as when I do choose to walk my parents for a little cardio, I'm always pushing my body to the limits and taking that extra step in search of something new to pee on."

Penny & Roscoe

I must admit, Roscoe is rather photogenic.  His mom calls him a "ham".... Penny & I agree.

Puppy Fun!

Today I had the best time pet sitting a boston terrier puppy.  She was such an adorable sweetheart!  She was a "surprise" present for my neighbor's mom (hence the pink bow). Isn't she adorable?!!! Any suggestions for a name?  Feel free to leave a comment, if you'd like.

Sunset at 4:45 pm! Oh dear!

Gosh, now that the sun is setting so early it's time to rethink dog walking at night.  I just found the perfect solution at SplendidPaws.com (which happens to be a local Manhattan Beach business that is owned and operated by a friend & client of mine).   The Pup - Light LED Collar looks fantastic & I've just placed my order!  I found a review of the product & thought I'd share:

"best dog light ever, September 8, 2008
by: imsodogcrazy from NC

I have ordered and tried to use dog lights, lighted collars and all sorts of contraptions for my husky so I can keep track of him at night.  This collar ROCKS! I have two now in case I lose one. It is the only really bright collar.  It means I don't even have to use a flashlight if I don't want to. Yes, it's that bright.  Batteries last a long time and my dog even swims with it on and it has stayed as perfect as when I bought it.  I love this collar and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs to be able to see their dog at night."

Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks

The Manhattan Beach fireworks are Sunday, December 14th at 6:30pm.  If you plan on being away from home this particular Sunday evening and your dog is scared of the loud firework noises, you may want to set your four legged furry friend up in a room with the TV on! The TV noise will help to drown out loud booms and crackles (remember to turn the volume up loud). Or if your pooch is highly sensitive to fireworks you may even want to make an appointment with your vet for some anti-anxiety medication.  (Can you even believe such doggie drugs exist?!)

This is my favorite picture from last year's fireworks.  We were on the beach near the MB pier. I hope you can see them, this is such an amazing event!
